Booking Your Theory Test

 

Introduced in 2001, the learner driver theory test meant that by law before applying for learner permit, candidates must complete and pass a test of their general road safety knowledge and motoring legislation. It applies to anyone applying for a first learners permit in any vehicle category. The current fee €45.

Driver theory test candidates will still be asked 40 questions and must answer 35 questions correctly in order to pass the test. The format of the test–multiple choice.

Coronavirus note: From the 10th August 2020 all Driver Theory Test candidates will be required to bring and wear a face covering at all times in the Driver Theory Test Centre.

Once you have successfully passed your driver theory test, you will be given a certificate and you can now apply for your learners permit. The driver test certificate is only valid for 2 years from the date you passed.
